Your Ultimate Maternity Style Guide!

Styling is one of the most overlooked elements of a maternity photo session, but it is one of the most important! I'm going to show you how to take your photos from ordinary to extraordinary with my Ultimate Style Guide!

Picking a Color-

Picking a color that is flattering to your skin tone is a great place to start. There are four main undertones to a persons complexion; warm, cool, neutral or olive. If your unsure of your skin undertone, you can take the quiz here- https://www.lavenderhillclothing.com/en-us/blogs/lavenderhilllife/unlocking-the-power-of-color-dressing-for-your-skin-tone?fbclid=IwAR029Li9VXhuswAgVaevBlKaVqgKPDlmZr44fV74lUnBmMi5QQlt8sj6Ixk#:~:text=There%20are%20several%20hues%20that,or%20blush%20and%20pink%20undertones

Once you've determined your color palate, lets decide on the theme. There are so many options it can be hard to narrow it down- here are my favorite.

Boho- Large oversized skirts, linen, tops with bell sleeve, a fun sun hat/wide brim hat. This is one of my favorite styles and I have tons of dresses for you to wear in my client closet. Reach out to schedule a consultation to learn more about the ready to wear outfits I have available for you.

Fairy Tale- This consists of full skirts and dresses. Think lots of tulle, possibly off the shoulder or sheer sleeves. You can pair this style with bold makeup, full curls and a crown to add some extra magic to your photos.

Classic- This style is more basic, but no less fun and dramatic. For a classic style I suggest going with a dress that is form fitting, makes you feel confidant and is a solid color, black is my go-to. Keep your makeup and hair beautifully polished, but not so bold that it overpowers your natural beauty. This style looks particularly nice in black and white.

Casual- Jeans and an unbuttoned over shirt or sheer robe is its own vibe with maternity. Pair this with a crop top or bralette, a fun hat and bare feet to give this look an earthy feel.

Boudoir- Maternity boudoir is a style I love and I work to show the beauty of your body during this transformative time. Your body is doing amazing work to grow your baby, it deserves to be celebrated! Boudoir can be done in undergarments, in a sheer robe or even with a draping piece of fabric. You can bring your partner to your session for extra couples photos.

No matter the theme, making sure your makeup is done, hair is styled and clothes are wrinkle free are all very important factors.

Select clothing that makes your feel confidant! When you look good, your feel good. Pick clothes that make your feel like your best self and your confidence will show on your face and shine through in your photos!

Styling your spouse and family- Maternity sessions often include a spouse or children. When styling your family don't use the same color for everyone, but stay within the same color tone range and keep with your theme. If you choose warm colors, dress your family in warm tones as well. A great option for your husband could be a nice fitting pair of jeans or slacks, and a clean white or black tee or button up shirt. Avoid graphic tees, and make sure his clothes fit him correctly. Pick a shirt he can pose in that won't lift up over his belly if he raises his arms.

I'd love to hear from you! Reach out to schedule a free consultation so we can talk more about your ideas and inspiration to make your maternity session uniquely you!
